Goal: to decorate and refurnish my living room to support family/friend gatherings and communications. No TV.
- Comfortable
- Attractive
- Easy to clean (cat will lay on furniture, but I can add blankets)
- More chairs than sofas
- Conducive to communications/visiting
- Sofa Color: Perhaps oatmeal with bright/modern pillows?
- Chairs: solids or modern prints.
- Tables: several so people can sit drinks/food beside them. Open to style.
Look at sample rooms below and use your imagination. What would you recommend?

My opinion: Love the 4th and 7th picture because the furniture is in a circular fashion. Circles are great for conversation, make a more intimate and close conversation which is usually wanted. With a center table are great for games or convenient for snacks/beverages. When planning for more company rearanging is always easy, the arrangement is easy to clean, and the cat would have it's own chair when it's just the two of you home. :~) As far as patterns and colors, I think having a solid couch is easy as you can always buy accent pillows with a design or different color to change it up. If buying a patterned couch, the print may be "out" or become dull in a couple years. Of course this is just my opinion you know... :~)
Karen; I am in total agreement. I like the circular idea and I like the large, round coffee table in picture #4 (I just wish it would crank up to dining height). I want a very comfy, solid high quality couch: maybe in an oatmeal pebbly fabric, not sure. I have NOT seen it yet on all my wanderings at HOM.
I appreciate your opinion, thank you!
I found an "elevating cocktail to dining" table! http://www.cymax.com/Hooker-Furniture-Adjustable-Height-Dining-Cocktail-Table-500-50-727.htm
My plan is "complete" for the LR. The Hooker elevating coffee/dining table, several bucket-swivel chairs, custom upholstered, and a settee.
A small "functional" flat screen TV somewhere, NOT a focal point. (Main TV will be in basement, where dogs are welcome, but will NOT upstairs any more!)
I got a great idea from cousin Rick's pictures; he was in Switzerland and visiting friends. Their arrangement in the LR was fabulous. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1625902003294&set=a.1625888842965.2078601.1108850902&type=1&theater
See the pic - kind of a "mini" version of what i want. As an aside, I also like the old furniture reupholstered in a lovely, modern fabric!
