To help you uncover your talents, read the book and take the online assessment provided in "Strengthfinders 2.0" a popular (small, easy to read) management book. It changed the way I look at myself.
Now I know what my strengths are and what makes me happy - so I try to spend most of my time working to those strengths. I will NEVER be good at some things I hate doing, so why bother (a little different philosophy than what some people have. They may say, "keep doing what your not good at so you will get better." I say NO WAY, Not if you hate it).
I absolutely love learning/discovering new information. I also am mesmerized when it comes to talking about new technologies and ideas. I love sharing what I learn. I think the reason I love reading my nieces blogs is because I am uncovering new information and I can give advice (sometimes by using new technologies or ideas). I am actually giddy with excitement when I learn new information from one of their blogs or just talking to them!
It can be something simple...I didn't know raw milk did not keep well in plastic, but lasts much better in glass. Wow! I didn't know there were all these new age baby stuff (like cloth diapers) that people are using again. As long as I am learning, I am in seventh heaven.
Well, I am going to have some dinner...maybe I will add more to this later. AND, I will send "Strengthfinders 2.0" to anyone in my family who asks for it.
Signed,
Work to your strengths and your power will be never ending. You can always hire someone to do the other crap.

I love this post. Not everyone is good at everything, and I am a firm believer in building on your strengths. My girls look up to you so much Marcia. Thanks for being such a good influence in their lives.
Thanks Mary; Your girls are a treasure and I am blessed with being able to see them grow and mature...even if it is rather painful sometimes! I appreciate so much that they are allowing me to participate in their lives. It enriches my life.
Aww. Everything Mom said is true, Aunt Marcia. We do look up to you a lot, and love talking to you about stuff.
I emailed you my results from the strengthfinder test. My only disappointment is that it didn't suggest any sort of carreers or anything that would play to those strengths. Logically I understand why they didn't, but that's what I want something to do; give me a list of things I would be good at/like doing, that I can choose from. LOL.
I am going to do a little research on this before we get together to talk about it first weekend in March. I know when I took this test with everyone else in my company, there was a lot of discussion around "what is the best job for someone".
In the meantime, keep thinking about your dream job...if you woke up tomorrow (what time?) and went (where? to the kitchen?) for (just a little while? 4 hours?) and did (what? blogged?) and were paid (enough. An immense amount)... DREAM BIG, dream happy!
I agree once again with Mom and Becky, you are an inspiration! I love learning new information as well, not so into technology though... Love strength finder 2.0 as well. Suggestion: Becky, go to your local workforce center. You can take assessments there that take about a 1/2 hour to an hour that not only ask about what you are good at, but what you like doing as well. At the end you get a long print out that grades the top 5 jobs you would be good at/ should go into. My top jobs were hospital administration and social work. Go figure... Great tool, and I believe it's free! :~)
I didn't know that, Karen! You are a font (or is that fount) of information. Thank you! I can pass that info on to members of my family thinking about career changes.
